Races/Regattas
The following are some of the races and regattas in which our fleets participate. All races are run under the rules and regulations of the National Ice Boat Authority, of which our club is a member.
NSIB&YC Club Races
Club races for each class of boat are held each season and trophies are awarded. Club races must be held on our home ice unless an individual fleet chooses to race at other sites. The DN fleet, for instance, frequently travels to upstate lakes for club races when there is no ice on our river.
National Sweepstakes Ice Boat Regatta
This regatta, initiated in 1970, is one of the largest regattas in the country and is open to all classes from all over the world. It is held annually, ice conditions permitting, on a date chosen by our Regatta Committee, and on our Navesink River.
Eastern Ice Yacht Association Regatta
This regatta is held annually, ice conditions permitting, on the 3rd weekend in January at various sites throughout the eastern United States. The EIYA is composed of about 14 ice boating clubs in the eastern region, and our club is a member. Because of the large number of boats in the association, there is a limit on the number of boats a club may enter, usually five per class. As this is a club vs club regatta, generally our top boats and skippers are entered, and in fairness to those skippers whom we send to the regatta, no club races may be held during this weekend (per bylaw change in 1994-1995 season).
National Yankee Regatta
This regatta is held annually at various sites and is open to all Yankee skippers in the country who are members of the Yankee Association.
Eastern International Skeeter Regatta
This regatta is held annually, ice conditions permitting, on the 1st weekend in January at various sites and is open to all A, B, and C Skeeters in the Eastern Region.
International Skeeter Regatta
This regatta is held annually at various sites and is open to all A, B, and C Skeeters in the world.
New Jersey Skeeter Regatta
This regatta is held annually at various sites and is open to all A, B, and C Skeeters in New Jersey.
IDNIYRA Gold Cup World Championships
This regatta is held annually and is open to International DN Association members throughout the world. Site of the regatta is alternated annually between North America and Europe.
North American IDNIYRA Championships
The “DN North Americans” are held annually with the site alternated among the four regional areas: east, west, midwest, and Canada.
IDNIYRA No. American Eastern Regional Championships
The “DN Easterns” are held annually in the Eastern Region at a site determined by the Regatta Committee.
Invitational Regattas
In addition to the regularly scheduled annual regattas, there are many “invitationals” run by the various clubs in North America to which our club is invited. These clubs are scattered over the northern part of our country from New Jersey to as far west as Wisconsin and into Canada. With the large number of regattas and sailing sites available, it is quite obvious that if an ice boater has the time and inclination, he can spend many exciting weekends enjoying the thrill of ice boat racing or simply pleasure sailing.
